A new milestone for Gippsland 1: Final EIS Guidelines received
The Ørsted Gippsland 1 Offshore Wind Farm has received final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) Guidelines for the project, which set out what needs to be investigated and how the project’s potential impacts should be assessed.
This provides the project team with a clear framework for the environmental assessments ahead including those related to marine and onshore environments, biodiversity, First Nations cultural values, communities, and local industries.
The project team will now bring baseline information together to build a detailed understanding of the project’s potential impacts. More than two years of environmental and technical studies will help inform the assessment, alongside ongoing engagement with Traditional Owners, communities, industry, and other stakeholders.
The assessment will also look at how potential impacts can be avoided, minimised, and mitigated through the project’s design and delivery. This is an important part of understanding how the project can coexist with the environment and existing uses of the Bass Strait.
Looking beyond the assessment itself, the team is also exploring how Gippsland 1 can contribute to Ørsted’s broader sustainability ambitions, including its commitment to net-positive biodiversity and lasting nature-positive outcomes.
