A new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Federation University marks another step in Ørsted’s commitment to building a skilled workforce supporting the new offshore wind industry in Gippsland.

Project Development Director Albert Quan said that as a build-own-operate developer, we rely on these types of partnerships to deliver our projects.

“We know the only way we can succeed in our projects is by working with Gippsland education providers to make sure we are training local people to help us deliver them.”

With a campus in the heart of Gippsland, and the recently established Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre (APRETC) Gippsland facility to support delivery of some of this training, Federation University will play a key role in helping develop people who have the skills and qualifications needed to grow future industries like offshore wind. Federation University collaborates closely with industry and government to support the renewable energy sector with specialised training, education and research.

In delivering the MOU, Ørsted will be able to combine our expertise with Federation University’s local insights, including an understanding the region’s current capabilities and future industry needs. Working together, we will be able to build a dynamic workforce capable of working across the construction and operations phases of our projects.

“The rest of Australia is looking to Gippsland to see how it prepares to lead the development of Australia’s offshore wind industry, and partnerships like this are key to making that happen,” he said.

“We look forward to working closely with Federation University to leverage our experience delivering offshore wind across the UK, Europe, Asia, and the US, tailoring an approach that helps locals step into new careers that are located in their own community; drives innovation; and shapes the future of clean energy in Victoria.”

We look forward to working closely with Federation University over the coming months.
